Thyroid problems underactive this month - you can make comments on this article by going to the forum page.  Infertillity is still open for discussion - to read the article just scroll down

Thyroid problems are mainly experience by women but can also affect men.  There are two conditions, under active and over active.

Blood tests are usually used to diagnose the problem and are not that accurate as individual thyroid levels and requirements vary so much and the spectrum of levels is broad.  A further blood test will also see if there is an excessive demand on the pituitary from the thryoid gland as the body tries to regulate itself.  Thyroid suffers often see a goitre (swollen gland at the front of their throat near the Adams Apple) as the thyroid gland swells to increase its intake of nutrients.

Untreated thyroid problems can have devasting effects and eventually early death.

However, the normal course of action for underactive is to take a thyroxine supplement.  This is all well and good but the thyroxine tablets themselves can have some side-effects and while the thyroxine is supplying needs then the body seems to rely on it and gradually the dose needs increasing. Sometimes it is only one aspect of the thyroid that really needs treating but allopathic medicine has not way of separating the needs.

Once the balance has been stabalised it is not too much of a problem but the level does need monitoring regularly and adjusted and  while this initial adjustment is taking place there can be some traumatic times for the sufferer.

A combination of therapies can help to reduce or event negate the need for thyroxine.

Eating a diet that is supportive of the body and does not place excessive demands on its' resources is the first step and taking supplements that will support the function of the thyroid and other fundamental body functions (everything slows down with underactive thyroid) is also neccessary - each individual has individual needs.  Once the ground work has been set in place then homeopathy can help to address the problem that casues the thyroid to be underactive.  This can take some time and dedication.

If you think about chakras then the underactive thyroid is a classic for the throat chakra.  That is about communication and relaxation.  Most people who have an underactive thyroid have a problem with communication.  Not in the normally accepted sense of the word but in feeling that maybe they are not or have not been listened to or that they have things that have remained unspoken and unresolved.  Often you will find that these are the type of people who 'swallow' things and allow them to fester.  They may be quite vociferous and reactionary but probably are not saying the things they really should be saying when they should be saying them.  Sometimes a course of hypnoanalysis is needed to  help to release those festering blocked emotions and therefore enhancing the benefits of the nutrition and homeopathic medicine.

Colours can also be considered - blue being the obvious one but not neccessarily the correct one as the blue may be a compensatory reaction.  Gemstones are easy to use aklso in the form of jewellery around the neck or scarves for instance.

Sound can also be used.  Chanting the hum bit of Ohm hits the throat chakra and stimulated the thyroid gland.  Certain Yoga postures can also stimualte the thyroid gland.

Reflexology can stimulate the thryoid through pressure points in the feet.

Other therapies that can offer support are massage, aromatherapy, acupuncture, reiki.

But the best thing is that while you are suffering with an underactive thyroid you are also suffering an imblaance in your emotional outlook on life and the thyroxine supplement can't treat that.  Treating your problem naturally will mean that you release yourself from that entrapment and feel a certain liberation too.

March Topic Infertillity

When we meet that special person who we would like to create the  family  picture with, it starts to become more embedded.  A real and close prospect.

It is espcially dissappointing then, to those people when that little addition that they feel would complete their family, doesn't come.

In the initial stages of trying in vain, you are given advise from your doctor and other medical professionals, like the obvious one - giving up smoking, loosing weight, eating healthy, destressing......

Sometimes you can do these things or some of them and sometimes it is difficult to look at them all without help.

As the situation continues your stress levels will probably be rising rather than falling.

You will eventaully get to the stage where you are considering infertillity treatment, including IVF.

This is a very costly process and even though you may eventually get it through the National Health Service it could not be described as pleasant - but credit to you, you will do anything to get that family.
